Forensic Evaluation Clinic

Client Referral Process

The primary purpose of forensic medical and psychological evaluations is to provide objective, unbiased evaluation of an individual’s physical or mental health status surrounding clients' history of torture, ill treatment, and/or persecution. We provide pro-bono forensic evaluations, as well as interpretation and transportation assistance as needed.

Typical Clients

Our clients are seeking asylum and other forms of humanitarian protection, such as U Visas, T Visas, or VAWA. Both adults and minors can receive evaluations. HEAL operates in Baltimore, Maryland to conduct in-person evaluations. Additionally, we conduct cross-border clinical evaluations for clients in Mexico and elsewhere being supported and/or represented by the International Refugee Assistance Program (IRAP). HEAL also provides remote critical access evaluations to IRAP clients living in underserved areas in the United States.

Types of Evaluations

HEAL provides psychological, physical, neuropsychological, and gynecological forensic evaluations.

Referral System

Please use the form linked below to complete referrals for your clients. It is the duty of the referring attorney to get client consent for a forensic evaluation. Please be prepared to provide a draft personal declaration and any other supporting or related documentation or evidence.

Scheduling Evaluations

HEAL staff will get in touch to schedule an evaluation once the referral is submitted. We are generally booking out a minimum of 2-3 months for clients with hard filing deadlines and ask for an additional 4-6 weeks to draft the affidavit after the evaluation is completed. If an evaluation is truly urgent (hard deadline within the next 8 weeks) please follow up the referral request with an email to info@healasylum.org.
